What does an animator do every day?
A fictional educational film needs to explain how a seed grows. The animator turns the script into a storyboard, plans timing, creates key poses and reviews whether the movement communicates the idea. Changes come from feedback about clarity, not just adding more effects. Rights and attribution matter when choosing assets.

Which school subjects matter in Class 9 to 12?

What skills does an animator use?
- Storyboarding: Show the sequence before spending time on finished frames.
- Timing and spacing: Use movement changes to communicate weight or attention.
- Feedback and revision: Identify the unclear moment and revise that part deliberately.
What are the first roles in this career?
A starting role usually offers a narrower task with supervision. In the first years, keep evidence of careful work, ask for feedback and learn the limits of your responsibility. Wider responsibility depends on learning, qualifications, the organisation and opportunities; there is no fixed five-year promotion ladder.
- Animation production trainee: An illustrative responsibility to develop in this role: Show the sequence before spending time on finished frames. The title and permitted scope vary by organisation and qualifications.
- Animator: An illustrative responsibility to develop in this role: Use movement changes to communicate weight or attention. The title and permitted scope vary by organisation and qualifications.
- Animation supervisor: An illustrative responsibility to develop in this role: Identify the unclear moment and revise that part deliberately. The title and permitted scope vary by organisation and qualifications.
What is a common myth about this career?
The assumption: Animation is only drawing quickly or pressing a software button.
A fuller view: Planning, observation, timing and collaboration shape the result. Tools help produce frames, but the visual explanation still needs decisions.
Looking ahead: Production tools change, so a portfolio should explain your own planning, timing and revision choices. Compare different animation workflows and respect the ownership of every asset used.
If you change your mind: Illustration, storyboarding, motion design and game art share some skills but have different workflows. Keep a record of the type of work you enjoy trying.
