Exam Pattern and Sectional Timing
The CAT 2026 question paper is divided into three sections, with 40 minutes allocated to each section. Candidates will not be allowed to switch to another section while taking a particular section.
- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC): 40 minutes
- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR): 40 minutes
- Quantitative Ability (QA): 40 minutes
Steps to Follow After Taking Mock Tests
According to expert Pawan Kumar, candidates should not merely look at the number of questions attempted, but also evaluate how many answers were correct and how many were incorrect. Candidates should follow these steps after completing mock tests:
- Categorise mistakes after every mock test: identify questions missed due to lack of subject knowledge, failure to read questions properly, or calculation errors, alongside mistakes made in haste.
- Analyse the performance of the past 8 to 10 mock tests to see whether results are consistent or fluctuating, and whether targeted scores are being met.
- Pay special attention to any section where marks are consistently low.
- For VARC preparation, practice understanding the main idea of an article and selecting the correct option based on the text.
- For DILR, focus on interpreting data, selecting the right question sets, and logical reasoning.
- For QA, identify essential concepts and learn their correct application, while solving new and unfamiliar questions instead of relying only on already solved problems.
- Do not rush into another mock test immediately; identify major weaknesses, revise those topics, practice problematic questions, and only then take the next test.
