· Source: Amar Ujala
The Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections this year will witness a Jat versus Meena contest for the president's post. While NSUI has fielded candidates from Rajasthan, internal clashes have also surfaced over ticket distribution.
Jat vs Meena Contest for President Post
This year's DUSU election will see a political battle between Jat and Meena candidates for the post of president. NSUI has fielded a Meena candidate from Rajasthan for the president's post, while ABVP has trusted a Jat candidate. In previous years, both organizations usually fielded Jat versus Jat or Jat versus Gurjar candidates, but the equations have changed this time.
Candidate Equations by NSUI and ABVP
NSUI has attempted to balance social equations by fielding a candidate from Rajasthan for the president's post and giving a ticket to another face from Rajasthan for the joint secretary post. NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar also hails from Rajasthan. On the other hand, ABVP has set its contest by fielding candidates representing different communities across positions.
| Post | ABVP Candidate Community |
|---|---|
| President | Jat |
| Vice President | Maurya |
| Secretary | Gurjar |
| Joint Secretary | Rajput |
Internal Clashes in NSUI Over Ticket Distribution
The ticket distribution exposed internal discord within NSUI. Four ticket seekers fought with each other after the distribution. Deepanshu Shokeen and Vishesh Yadav were expecting tickets from NSUI but did not get them; instead, Veer Chatrath and Gopal Choudhary were made candidates.
- A violent clash took place among the four ticket seekers.
- Supporters clashed, leading to head injuries for Gopal Choudhary.
- Upset over being denied a ticket, Deepanshu Shokeen has decided to contest independently.
