NEET-SS Counseling Delay and Supreme Court Case
NEET-SS counseling was supposed to be completed in April, but the matter reached the Supreme Court due to a dispute over Tamil Nadu's service quota. The Tamil Nadu government took around 250 super specialty seats under the service quota, but admissions were completed on only about 60 seats. The remaining approximately 190 seats were supposed to be returned to the All India Quota. Although the National Medical Commission (NMC) asked the state government to return the seats, it was not done. On 29 May, the Supreme Court ordered the Tamil Nadu government to return the vacant seats, following which the state government filed another petition. Currently, three related cases are pending in the Supreme Court, and doctors have also filed a contempt petition.

FMGE Doctors Awaiting Internship
Around 500 doctors who completed their MBBS abroad and passed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) have been waiting for counseling for a long time. Despite passing the exam, these doctors have not received an opportunity to start their internship and the subsequent processes. The students approached the Delhi Medical Council, where they were assured of possible accommodation in other colleges, but a final solution has not yet been reached.
Opposition to New DM Admission Rules
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has formed an expert committee to review the admission rules for Doctorate of Medicine (DM) super specialty courses. The committee is examining whether doctors holding certain other MD specializations can be allowed admission into DM courses. Doctors have openly opposed this proposal, stating that it will affect training quality. Dr. Dhruv Chauhan, National Spokesperson of the IMA Junior Doctors Network, stated that the proposal is a major blow to MD Medicine doctors and could impact the current super specialty training system.
