On Thursday, the Supreme Court allowed the transfer of an IIT Kharagpur architecture student suffering from borderline personality disorder to IIT Roorkee on medical grounds. A bench comprising Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice R. Mahadevan exercised special powers to grant this permission.
Directive to IIT Kharagpur
The Supreme Court directed IIT Kharagpur to provide the student with all necessary transfer and migration-related documents and certificates within a period of one week.
Medical Grounds Stated in Petition
The student had approached the Supreme Court stating that the required medical treatment was inaccessible because IIT Kharagpur had not permitted the transfer. The petitioner submitted that other students had previously been granted transfers to other institutions for similar medical reasons.
