NCERT has developed an introductory module on Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence for students of Classes 9 to 12 under the Ministry of Education. The module encourages hands-on, activity-based learning that can be conducted with or without digital devices.

What Was Announced

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), under the Ministry of Education, has introduced an introductory module on Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for students of Classes 9, 10, 11, and 12. Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the module is designed for beginners to provide basic knowledge of how modern technology works and where it is applied.

Key Features of the Curriculum

  • Computational Thinking: Teaches students to break complex problems into smaller parts, identify issues, gather necessary information, consider various approaches, and arrive at solutions.
  • Activity-Based Learning: Focuses on discussions, practice, experiments, and self-reflection instead of just reading textbooks.
  • Learning Without Digital Devices: Activities can be carried out with or without digital tools, making it accessible for schools with limited computers or internet access through discussions, paper exercises, and group work.
  • Ethical and Safe Use: Covers data privacy, fairness, digital safety, and fact-checking, guiding students not to blindly trust AI-generated answers and to verify them with reliable sources.
