NTA Reforms: Subject Experts, 13 Language Translators to Prepare Exam Papers

· Source: Amar Ujala

The central government has implemented 101 recommendations made by the Dr. K. Radhakrishnan committee to reform the National Testing Agency and prevent paper leaks in national exams like NEET and JEE. NTA will now appoint subject experts and 13 native language translators, giving priority to government teachers and professors.

Implementation of Radhakrishnan Committee Recommendations

Under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government has formulated a framework to protect national exams including NEET and JEE from paper leaks. A total of 101 recommendations from the committee headed by former ISRO chief Dr. K. Radhakrishnan have been implemented. As part of these reforms, 47 NTA officers were dismissed, and the recruitment process for new officers and staff has commenced. Under the new system starting next year, relevant officials from NTA and the Ministry of Education will face action for paper leaks or irregularities, and the accountability of the Education Minister has also been fixed. A meeting between the Prime Minister and Dr. K. Radhakrishnan was held on Friday regarding exam process reforms.

Changes in Question Paper Preparation

Because outsourced experts leaked question papers in 2026, outsourced experts will not prepare question papers next year. NTA will recruit subject experts and translators for 13 languages to set question papers, giving priority to government teachers and professors.

NEET 2027 and Exam Centers

NEET 2027 will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT), and its centers will be set up in government educational institutions. A consensus is emerging to conduct NEET UG twice a year along the lines of JEE Main. Preparations are underway to conduct NEET UG 2027 over five to six days across multiple shifts, allowing 3 to 4 lakh students to take the exam per day, unlike the current system where 23 to 24 lakh students take the test in a single shift on one day. However, no decision has been taken on the recommendation allowing a candidate to appear for NEET UG three or four times.

Dedicated NTA Centers at Government Institutions

To maintain paper confidentiality, NTA will establish its own examination centers before JEE, NEET, and CUET. These centers will be set up in government institutions, including:

  • IITs
  • IIITs
  • NITs
  • Navodaya Vidyalayas
  • Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs)
  • Engineering colleges
  • Government schools
