Tamil Nadu MBBS Admission: Over 800 Private University Seats Remain Vacant

· Source: Amar Ujala

The Tamil Nadu selection committee has filled all state quota MBBS seats in the stray vacancy round, leaving zero vacant seats in government medical colleges. However, more than 800 MBBS seats remained unfilled in private universities under central counselling due to annual fees reaching nearly Rs 35 lakh.

State Quota MBBS Seats Fully Allotted

The state selection committee completed the admission process for state quota MBBS seats in the stray vacancy round based on merit and student preferences. All available MBBS seats in government medical colleges were allotted, leaving no vacancies. However, 43 BDS (dental) seats remained unfilled. Officials noted that most students allotted seats in the stray round accept them because leaving an allotted seat can lead to a heavy penalty.

High Vacancies in Private Universities

More than 800 MBBS seats remained vacant in private universities under central counselling. According to reports, students showed less interest in taking admission to these universities due to annual fees reaching up to Rs 35 lakh. In contrast, one private university with lower fees saw over 100 seats filled in the final round.
